Miley Cyrus has candidly revealed the extent to which she
decided to declare, "I'ma pursue my unique path," during her Bangerz
era. In the most recent episode of the renowned pop sensation's Once Was
Youthful TikTok series, in which she contemplates her life and luminous career,
the 30-year-old vocalist disclosed the story of how she independently
bankrolled her Bangerz Tour, as nobody else had faith in her vision.
"The Bangerz Tour represented a self-investment,"
commented the "Flowers" artist, reflecting on the 2014 tour in
support of her chart-topping fourth studio album. "I did not amass a penny
from this tour because I aspired to make it extraordinary."
In her TikTok narrative, she recounted, "As people
persistently inquired, 'Why are you embarking on this journey? You are slated
to perform roughly 100 shows and won't accrue any financial gain.' I responded,
'There's no one more deserving of my investments than myself.' Consequently, I
personally funded the entire endeavor to materialize it exactly as I
envisioned, in line with what I believed both I and my dedicated fans
merited."
The "Midnight Sky" vocalist elucidated that only a
handful of individuals within her team at that juncture comprehended her
innovative concepts for the spectacle, which notoriously flaunted an
exceedingly campy aesthetic and featured surreal, larger-than-life elements.
She divulged, "Several of these notions were so exceedingly unconventional
that there was minimal enthusiasm to endorse my creation. Therefore, I
introduced massive marionettes, and colossal beds, and even made an entrance by
emerging from a gargantuan facsimile of my own visage."
Cyrus also disclosed the essence behind one of the concert's
ideas that she and her creative overseer at the time, Diane Martel, conceived.
"[Martel] inquired, 'How would you envision concluding this performance?'
She questioned, 'The show is of grand proportions; how would you prefer to
conclude it?' My preference was to conclude it with an allusion to 'The Truman
Show,'" the artist shared, alluding to the 1998 film starring Jim Carrey
as a man unwittingly living his life on a televised stage.
She further expounded, "Hence, I made my exit astride a
gargantuan frankfurter, naturally, and exited through the celestial realms,
much like Jim Carrey's character in the movie. I perceived 'The Truman Show' as
a profound reflection of my own existence."
Cyrus introduced the "Once Was Youthful" series in
August, concurrently with the release of her latest single bearing the same
title. The song is an emotive ballad in which she reflects on her past and the
various perceptions she has encountered throughout her illustrious career.
The chart-topper had previously been forthright in the
TikTok series concerning other incidents tied to the release of her 2013 album,
Bangerz, which triggered controversies, including her hit single, "We
Can't Halt," and the music video for "Wrecking Ball."
"At the time I conceived 'Wrecking Ball,' I anticipated
some degree of dispute and backlash, but I hadn't foreseen fellow women
undermining me or turning against me, especially women who had previously
occupied my position," the luminary asserted, referencing the criticism
she received from the late Irish artist Sinead O'Connor. She continued, "I
had no insight into the fragile mental state she was grappling with.
Furthermore, I was merely 20 years old, and my comprehension of mental health
was constrained."

Miley Cyrus has also been forthcoming on the show about even
earlier episodes in her career, as well as her romantic relationships.
Just last week, the former Disney Channel luminary recounted
her 2009 Teen Choice Awards performance, during which she serenaded the
audience with "Party in the U.S.A." atop an ice cream cart while
maintaining her balance on a vertical pole.
"I had performed 'Party in the U.S.A.' and it marked my
debut appearance at the Teen Choice Awards. My mother suggested, 'It would be
fascinating if she were situated in a mobile home park, as that's our genuine
origins,'" the recording artist reminisced.
In response to the furor sparked by the then-17-year-old's
pole-clinging performance, Cyrus retorted, "It wasn't intended as a
stripper's pole; it was primarily for stability. Besides, I was wearing high
heels! What more could one expect from me?"
